What is Video-as-a-Service (VaaS) and how does it work?
Video agencies work on a project-to-project basis, which forces them to charge more and work slower, starting each project from scratch.
Video-as-a-Service is a subscription that allows SparkPortal to dedicate a full-time team to producing video and related assets for our clients over a longer period of time.
This model enables lower costs, faster (and more consistent) production, and allows us to guide our clients on video strategy, rather than just focusing on executing projects one-by-one.
What do I really get? Are there any limits?
With a Video-as-a-Service subscription you’ll be assigned:
- a video marketing expert to manage your video roadmap strategy
- a creative director to ensure each project always hits the mark
- a dedicated production team that will become familiar with your brand to ensure consistency and speed.
Our subscription packages include everything you need to create video and other related assets, fast. Including: graphic design, illustration, animation, video editing, sound design, storyboarding, professional voiceover talent and full-service project management.
What kind of projects can SparkPortal deliver?
When you have a creative director and a dedicated team of graphic designers, illustrators, animators and video and sound editors, the sky’s the limit.
Our clients produce all sorts of assets to uplevel their marketing performance including: Explainer videos, Animated ads, Podcasts, Animated infographics, Case studies, personalized ABM videos, and so so much more.

What does Video-as-a-Service NOT include?
Our Video-as-a-Service subscriptions include everything you need to create video and other related assets, fast. Including: graphic design, illustration, animation, video editing, sound design, storyboarding, professional voiceover talent and full-service project management.
In order to keep costs low for you, the only service that is not included in our package is live, on-site video shoots. If you have a subscription to Video-as-a-Service, and need to create a video that requires on-site footage, we can work with you to capture that video remotely or coordinate a live video shoot separate from your VaaS contract and then perform the rest of the editing work with no additional charge (as part of your subscription).
How much does a VaaS subscription cost?
Subscriptions to Video-as-a-Service are available through monthly, quarterly or annual packages and large discounts are offered based on the length of the agreement.
The more videos our clients make during these periods, the lower their cost per video. Our VaaS clients have enjoyed per-video costs ranging from $649 per asset to $2,249 per asset, far below the market average of $7,972 for a typical 60 second marketing video.

Do I have to commit to a long term contract? How does billing work?
Subscriptions to Video-as-a-Service are available through monthly, quarterly or annual packages and large discounts are offered based on the length of the agreement.
There are no additional contractual agreements other than the subscription package you select and purchase.
What if I want to test this out first?
Glad you asked! We know many people will want to ‘try-before-they-buy’ so we offer a free trial that includes one free video.
Here’s how it works:
1. Select the subscription package you prefer
2. Decide which video you want to create and determine success criteria for the project
3. We create the video with you completely FREE
4. Once the video is produced and we have successfully met the success criteria, your subscription will be activated and we’ll start working on all your other projects.
How does VaaS compare to other video agencies and freelancers?
Other agencies and freelancers work on a project-to-project basis, which forces them to charge more and work slower, starting each project from scratch.
SparkPortal offers Video-as-a-Service which allows us to hire and dedicate a full-time team to producing video and related assets over a longer period of time.
This means we can deliver video assets faster, with more consistency and at lower costs than other agencies or freelancers. And because we deliver longer-term, continuous production for our clients, we also help to guide you on video strategy, rather than just focusing on executing projects one-by-one so you can get the most out of your budget.
How much work does my team need to do?
When you subscribe to Video-as-a-Service with SparkPortal we will guide you through the process of designing a video strategy, then we will manage the execution of each project based on your video roadmap.
For each project, your creative director will help you conceptualize from a creative perspective and will fully manage the production for you so your team simply needs to quickly perform reviews and provide feedback until each project is complete. The only additional effort involved is writing the copy for the assets as we have found most of our clients prefer to draft their own scripts and copy, leaving the rest of the work to our team.
What types of companies does SparkPortal work with?
We are experienced working with companies from small startups to the largest of the fortune 100. We’re fully capable of navigating complex organizations or servicing teams as small as a single marketer.
Where we specialize is in software. We have found SaaS companies have a unique need to create video and related assets in volume and at a very high pace, which makes software companies big and small the best fit for our services and strategic strengths.
What is a video roadmap?
When you subscribe to Video-as-a-Service you’ll be partnered with a video marketing expert who will help you design a roadmap of projects based on your upcoming marketing needs.
This means you’ll know what assets will be created, and in what order, so you can plan more strategically for campaigns – and our production team can work faster and deliver more projects in a shorter amount of time.
